Thanks Christi for using this blog to keep friends and family updated with our progress after the accident. There is no way we can thank everyone enough for all the prayers, cards, calls, visits, meals, etc. God has truly blessed us with wonderful people in our lives!
This post is being made by Joyce. I am pretty much back to my old self. My arm is still a little weak, and I continue to have about a 2" oval area that is numb to the touch, but as far as I know it is not a problem. Bret still has some nights of discomfort with his ribs and goes back to the couch to try to sleep. He continually tries to go back to his normal activities, but tinges of pain interupt him and prevent that from being totally accomplished. The doctor said that the total healing of his ribs will take months, so please continue to lift him up in prayer for that to happen. The burns on his lower calf and ankle are finally about healed.
I'm sure we will carry a few minor aches and pains from the accident for a good while, but we feel sincere thanks to the Lord for not allowing our injuries to be any worse than they were. Every time we think back and discuss that day, we know God had/has a purpose for allowing it all to take place as it did. I continue to cling to one of my life verses, Roman 8:28. "For we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose." God called me into His family many years ago as a young girl and He has kept me in His care in all things. Another promise I continue to thank God for is Psalm 91:11 - "For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways."
Again, we thank everyone for their prayers as we realize God will use this in His own way for us to be able to help minister to someone else. He works things that way, you know!
With love and appreciation,
Joyce & Bret

2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.

Dad is continuing to have some trouble with his stomach. Please pray that this will stop and he will regain his strength. He is having some improvement in the pain in his chest and back. The ribs on his side were broken the worse. The throwing up on Friday also caused the one rib that was popping to start that again.
Mom still has a part of her arm that she does not have feeling in as well as pain if she tries to use any strength in her arm or hand. Please pray that she will have complete healing in her arm and hand.

Please pray for Dad. He has been sick throwing up today. Mom had to take him to get a shot of Phenergan but it did not really help. The Dr. said he thought he had picked up a stomach virus. Michael is at home throwing up this evening now too. Please pray for quick healing and that the throwing up will not cause damage or set back for Dad's ribs healing. Also please pray that Mom stays well as she cares for Dad. We would greatly appreciate your prayers!!!

Still lots of trouble sleeping. Dad hasn't been able to sleep in the bed in several days. He had a short coughing spell at bed time last night which did not help things. (Coughing, sneezing, throwing up, all of those type things are very bad)
Mom still does not have feeling in her forearm. She still has pain, swelling, and lots of bruising as well.
Also pray for Dad's burns on his leg that we did not find until this past Sunday.

April 20th
Unfortunately my laptop will not support the blog so that is why there has not been a post since Friday. Sorry.
Dad has been able to sleep some in the bed over the weekend. He continues to stay in pain and have muscle spasms in all of his muscles. This is especially so during the night when he is trying to get some sleep.
The swelling in Mom's hand continues to improve but she still has pain and numbness in her arm.
What to pray for:

What to pray for:
- Relief of pain for Mom & Dad
- The muscle spasms to stop
- Total healing and use of Mom's arm and hand
- Rest for both of them during the night
- That neither one of them will over do it until their body has had time to heal
- That others' faith will be strengthened from the evidence of their overwhelmingly strong and unceasing faith

Mom & Dad both seemed to have a pretty good day yesterday. Mom went to work all day after dad's eye Dr. apt. Of course when she got home her hand and entire arm was very swollen and she was worn out.
Dad had a rough night last night. He can't seem to sleep more than about 2 hours at a time and he can not get comfortable. The two of them ended up sleeping sitting straight up for a while. Dad's pain is still very bad, especially in his upper back behind his chest where he has several broken ribs. He also has a rib that continues to pop.
Mom's arm looks a little better this morning after resting it for a while but her hand is still extremely swollen. She said she still does not have feeling in part of it.
Please continue to pray for rest and healing for both of them. It will be a long process!

Thursday Morning 4/16/09
Dad slept 4 hours straight and then about 2 1/2 more hours last night. Another improvement. He had one bad bout with pain in his back behind his upper chest where he has several ribs that are broken and some muscle spasms in his chest. He is also having trouble from time to time walking because of the trauma his leg muscles experienced being wrapped up and twisted in the motor cycle. Dad had an appointment at the eye Dr. this morning to check on his eye that he scratched a couple of weeks ago. That's where they are gone to now.
Mom's hand has gone down a little bit. It is still extremely swollen.
Continue to pray for complete recovery for both of them!
Thanks!
Christi
